Contemporary American Indian Issues and Tribal Sovereignty Workshop - Mar 11

MNCESR is pleased to advertise a free workshop for middle and high school educators in social studies, history, government, and English.  It will be held on Tuesday, March 11th, from 4:30 to 7:30 at the Browning High School Cafeteria.  Mike Jetty, OPI Indian Education Specialist, and Lea Whitford, Representative, Montana House District 16, are the instructors.  Participants will have the opportunity to (1) learn key concepts about how tribal nations exercise sovereignty, (2) share strategies for infusing contemporary American Indian Issues into civics education, and (3) receive additional materials for use in the classroom.  Three OPI renewal units will be provided as well as a stipend of $20 for those traveling more than 50 miles.  A light dinner will be provided.  Please register as soon as possible by contacting Gaye Genereux, MNCESR Director, at 406.378.3136 or by emailing her at gayegenereux@yahoo.com.  Please provide her with your name, the district and school in which you teach, the grades and subjects taught, your email and mailing addresses, and your phone numbers when you register.  The workshop requires a minimum of ten registrants.
